One of the best movies ever made. Classic psychological thriller that manages to be gruesome, oppressive, suspenseful, elegant, and intelligent. The Silence of the Lambs is Directed by Academy Award winner Jonathan Demme and star Academy Award winners Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster. Foster plays an FBI trainee, Agent Starling, who must interview a crazed, imprisoned, psychopathic cannibal Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Hopkins) in hope of gathering information to trap another serial killer by the name of "Buffalo Bill. When Starling and Lecter meet, fireworks ignite as they both are forced to dig into the past and recall deep rooted memories that can be painful and exhausting. The suspense lies in those intellectually tasteful conversations between Starling and Lecter. The nerve-wracking countdown begins when "Buffalo Bill" captures a senator's daughter. Starling must find the connection between all the killings in order to find all the answers to find him. The ending is literally heart-stopping encompassing unbearable tension when Starling and the killer are forced to face each other in a death hunt of cat and mouse. Winner of 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture. 9/10.

The Buffalo Bill character dances frontally naked (in the clips here censored) but keeps his genitals out of sight by clenching them between his thighs so as to look like a female with unshaved pubes. I found that scene both funny and gruesome. More gruesome than the moments when he is sewing the skins together. Respect for actor Ted Levine. Did he ever have a Mr Nice Guy role after this? The brain-ladling scene in the sequel was effectively horrible too, but it was ridiculous to put Julianne Moore in the Clarice role, both actresses have nothing in common. Magnificent film - the second best of the four. I happened to be at a book store very the day Silence of the Lambs first arrived and, having read Red Dragon, I immediately bought it, reading it twice quite quickly. I wrote a complimentary note to Thomas Harris (care of the publisher) and a couple of months later received an extremely cordial hand-written letter from him, thanking me. Among other things, he advised that Red Dragon took three years to write, and Silence took five. That's a lot of reasearch and wordsmithing. Ted Levine is one hell of an actor. He was absolutely great as Starbuck in the TV-movie remake.
